Cruising in Alaska

There are many options to consider when taking a cruise through Alaska. You may want to ask yourself if you are more interested in small-ship cruising versus big-ship cruising. Here are a few of the differences and cruise operators to choose from.

Big ship cruising

Many of the large, well-known cruise ship companies offer trips to Alaska. This option is usually less expensive and you’ll have ample time to enjoy the amenities provided on board and shopping on shore. Day adventures are provided at additional cost.

Most itineraries are 7-12 day sailings which focus on the larger communities and destinations as you travel through the Inside Passage, such as Ketchikan, Juneau and Glacier Bay National Park. Cruises usually travel one-way between Seattle or Vancouver and Seward or Whittier, located on the Kenai Peninsula just south of Anchorage. Some of these cruise operators offer included land packages to Denali National Park before or after your cruise.
