Alaska Ferry to assist IFA with temporary ferry service between Ketchikan and Hollis: M/V Lituya sailings to begin October 8
October 2nd, 2020
The Alaska Ferry System has scheduled the M/V Lituya to provide temporary service between Ketchikan and Hollis on Prince of Wales (POW) Island. On September 30, the Inter-Island Ferry Authority's (IFA) M/V Stikine suffered a propulsion system failure, and the incident has left POW Island with limited options for travel and commerce. The IFA anticipates returning their vessel to service November 1.
"We understand how important the ferry
link is for Ketchikan and POW residents," said Department of
Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Commissioner John MacKinnon.
"I'm happy the Lituya is available to provide some relief until the IFA's
ship returns to service."
The AMHS vessel Lituya will sail round-trip
from Ketchikan to Hollis on Thursday, October 8, and again on Saturday, October
10. Lituya will continue providing limited service until the IFA vessel resumes
service on November 1.
