Founded in 1981, Viking Travel started with a gravel floor and a public shower/spa in the other half of the building. A fire destroyed the
building in 1993, and with support from the community of Petersburg, Viking Travel was up and running by the following morning.
Being part of a community where everyone pitches in has helped formed us into the company we are today.
We have always been a business that provides personal service to customers new and old alike. We pride ourselves on our ability to
help people, whether it's finding a way to see a glacier, bring your furry friend along or make last-minute travel plans.
Meet Our Travel Agents
David Berg, co-founder of Viking Travel, values the slower pace of island life. The Seattle, WA native enjoys all that comes with
living on the water. He is a volunteer firefighter and EMT, and enjoys homebrewing, particularly IPA. David barbeques king
salmon on his covered deck year round, with wife and Viking Travel co-founder Nancy Berg.
Nancy Berg, co-founder of Viking Travel, has lived in Alaska for 38 years. Her favorite parts of living in Petersburg are the sight
of the beautiful mountains, being close to the water, and the small-town atmosphere. Summertime is spent gardening, and cooking
up her specialty Nobu black cod recipe.
Kathleen Boggs has been with Viking Travel since 2007. She loves the sense of community that comes from living in a small
town, and enjoys teaching dance with the Mitkof Dance Troupe. Fresh shrimp, which she enjoys with her husband and daughter,
is just one of many reasons this Arizona transplant loves calling Southeast Alaska home.
Fini Hanson has lived in Petersburg for over 30 years, and has been with Viking Travel since 2007. Besides spending time
with family out hunting, camping, and berry picking, she enjoys game nights with friends and serving up halibut
tacos for dinner.
Anne Volk moved to Petersburg in 1981, and has been with Viking Travel for almost 30 years. Living in Alaska lets her do the
activities she loves, like hiking, gardening, fishing, and grilling up the spoils of a day spent out on the water.
Melanie Gunn started working at Viking Travel after moving to Alaska in 2015. She loves travel, adventure and all the
beautiful scenery of Southeast Alaska. Originally a baker from the Mitten State, Melanie now enjoys trying out new seafood recipes,
adventuring outside, and enjoying the long summer days with her husband.
Keely Swanson is a life long resident of Petersburg, mother of a silly daughter, Aria, and owner
of their three year old cat, Octavia. In her free time she enjoys adventuring with Aria, reading any
book she can get her hands on, and practicing new music on her vintage piano.
Boomer, the office dog, enjoys greeting visitors and showing them his favorite toys. His hobbies include napping, going on
walks, and waiting for you to drop some food.
Our office is located in Petersburg, Alaska, a fishing town nestled in the heart of Southeast Alaska. Our Norwegian and Tlingit heritage
combine to make this a thriving, culturally vibrant community, with the self-sufficiency and isolation characteristic of many Alaskan
Petersburg celebrates its Norwegian heritage with the annual Little Norway festival every third weekend of May, in honor of Norwegian
Constitution Day. The festival features traditional dancing and music, a parade, and even a marauding crew of Vikings and Valkyries.
